CE conformity
From July 2014, companies that manufacture structural steel components will be required to have certification. This is preceded by an exhaustive internal process culminating in an audit by an external certification body. For a transitional period until this time, both standards will be operative – the national standard or EN 1090. This means that even now, customers may already expect their suppliers to be EN 1090 compliant.
The EN 1090 family of standards supersedes the various standards which have hitherto been in force in Europe governing the execution of steel structures. Under EN 1090, companies will only be allowed to bring products into circulation if these have valid CE Marking. Manufacturers of metal structural components are obliged to have themselves certified, i.e. audited to prove that they meet the requirements for obtaining a certification number for their CE Marking. This CE conformity assessment requires five preceding steps:
- Researching information on the Standard and on the relevant execution classes
- Giving employees the necessary training in the light of this information
- Introducing a quality assurance system
- Drawing up welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Being audited by a certification body Step
Number 4 can be a tideous task. Sub-clause 7.4.1.1 of EN 1090 requires that welding
shall be carried out with qualified procedures using a welding procedure specification (WPS) in accordance with the relevant parts of standards covering, among other things, arc and resistance welding by various welding processes.
EN 1011-1 requires that the preparation of a weld procedure specification (WPS) shall be in accordance with EN ISO 15609. For arc welding, EN ISO 15609-1 applies and the technical content requirements of the WPS are covered by clause 4 of this Standard. An (informative) example is given in Annex A of the Standard.

The following seam types can be drawn dynamically:
- Butt weld
- Fillet weld
- Corner weld
- Overlap weld
- Pipe joint
- Flanged weld
Dynamic drawing means that a to-scale joint detail is created according to the entered dimensions. This makes it possible to detect false entries immediately and may be corrected afoot. The generated joint detail is the foundation for the weld build-up, which may be designed afterwards.

New document
A new WPS document may be created by pressing the button "New" or by the menue selection "File" "New WPS". A new and empty documents opens which can be filled in step-by-step as with well known office-suites. After each input the modifications appear in the document immediately and may be checked and modified any time.
Weld detail
By simply entering the basic joint type and the direct input of the geometrical dimensions a sketch of the joint is generated to-scale. This can be rotated or zoomed in any way. By this means almost all possible joint details can be made.
Weld build-up
The joint detail generated previosly is the foundation for the weld build-up. 3 mouse clicks build each pass and are numbered automatically.

Base materials
The integrated database contains 4688 steels and 227 aluminium materials including the standard designations. Deviating materials may be stored in a private database and recalled any time.
Welding positions
Any number of welding positions may be used in the WPS.
Filler metals
The integrated database includes all filler metals from MIG WELD. Own fillers may be stored in a database and recalled any time later.

Input of parameters
Any welding pass may be defined with any welding process and any welding parameter. Passes can be deleted, modified or copied any time.
